Baie 19

Cold, hug me, metal that is cold, syrupy gin that is frosty, little patchouli, little bit of air, a very good martini, and I don’t even drink those. Flash of mint, stones, the forest going through puberty; it pulls refreshing, biting, menthol, ginny, on my skin. Imagine a snowglobe but instead of a snowman with a carrot nose and coal eyes, with fake flakes of blueish snow, think of a dirt globe. Soil globe, instead of a snow man there is a dirt man, it’s still cold and there are water droplets on the glass, there are pebbles and dirt instead of snow. To me it smells very good and I feel earthy, vegetal, but like a bottle of fancy gin right out the freezer. It doesn’t freeze because it’s alcohol, the juniper makes sharp chilly liquid that isn’t ice but it’s so close to it.

I haven't had a signature scent since my youth (Amour Amour, Anais Anais, Ysatis). Im 65 yo now and think Baie 19 may be it. I can't pick out notes . . . yet . . . but Baie 19 did make me remember feeling wet rained-on lawn between my toes, wet green plants, and rolly-pollys crawling out from under leaves and dead branches, but there was no wet dirt. It also reminded me of coming out of the suburban pool water, after being in it almost all day, and my shoulder being both wet and sun-warmed as well as b-r-r-r-r in the growing afternoon coolness and my mom would wrap me in a big swim towel and I felt cozy, loved, and protected. It lasted about 12 hours on me with the last few being a skin scent. Oh, but what a glorious way for my skin to smell

I think them marketing this as some sort of wet dirt, rain, earthy scent is hurting its rating. People are coming into smelling this scent thinking about outside and nature and it locks you in to a certain perspective. The score on this site should be much higher. At least a 4.0. It’s a great clean earthy patchouli smell. In the opening, it smells like a drier less complex and smooth version of Oud Wood. And on the drydown it smells like a mix between Green Irish Tweed and Club De Nuit Intense!! Its a really good scent for any season. Especially daytime, running errands, or the gym.

I've worn this fragrance now off-and-on for more than a year, and have to say the things I didn't like and did like about it are each amplified. There is a distinct turpentine/gasoline smell that is off-putting and un-perfume like at the start. About an hour later the magic starts, and it cocoons you in warmth. One thing I've come to really love about this parfum is its suitability for layering- I've layered it with light all the way to heavy (e.g. Dior Homme Parfum) perfumes and it really creates these lovely, artistic olfactory notes that aren't simply 1+1 = 2.

Extremely ozonic photorealistic petrichor. Lasts a good long while on me. I can smell it pretty strongly on myself all day, but it doesn't project far. It really smells like wet, cold, rotting leaves. This fragrance feels more like an artistic achievement in scent than a daily wear option. It does not smell "good" in the way I typically hope a fragrance will smell good. That said, it is wearable enough to actually use on occasion and it smells good in the way that nature's processes can be truly awesome (in the traditional sense) and resensitizing to beauty.
