Terre D'Hermes Eau de Toilette

The one that kicked off my journey and still the one I appreciate the most. I got here via shave soap artisans trying to capture the magic and the real thing was an eye-opener. I haven't felt the need to try any flankers or seek out 'better' scents in the same profile. TdH EDT as it stands is perfect to my nose. I don't overload on it, either; I'm pretty frugal with it but I will catch it all day and when it gets nice and warm, it really comes out to play. It gets along very well with my body chemistry and it's just one of those scents that I wear for me, nobody else. It stays pretty close to you, reserved and not loud, but very confidently mature and masculine. "Dirty orange" doesn't quite capture its unique character, but I really like that it doesn't resemble anything else and despite its popularity, I really don't catch it in the wild. Suitable for anything going on at any time of the year, this is something you wear when you're confident in yourself and don't care if anyone knows it.

I love this stuff and can't think of a better way to determine whether you'd like it or not than to take a very well done negative review by SmellyLauren (props) and flip it to the positive. She writes "it smells like oil extracted from a bitter orange peel mixed with oil extracted directly from a pine needle". I love both of those smells! I don't get totally herbal, but rather some earthiness that for whatever reason I love as well. She adds "The only kind of person I can truly see wearing this is a 6’6 burly lumberjack with plaid shirt on outside of a cabin in the winter. I can kind of see this on a very wealthy, slightly strange mature CEO." I'm a middle-aged man, and do I want to smell like a burly lumberjack or a wealthy, mature CEO? Hell yeah! Simplified: if it fits your skin chemistry, an opening that smells somewhat bug spray dries down into pure badass who controls the room. If it doesn't fit your skin chemistry, you'll just smell like bug spray

Pleasantly surprised. I'd personally class this as a 'fresh n clean' but with a serious twist, making it extremely unique compared to your blue classic DNAs. To me, this smells professional and mature. I think you could wear this anywhere. I get a professional vibe, with a bohemian twist. Love the smooth rendition of orange, woods and incense. That's what my nose picks up the most, even though incense isn't listed. Anyway I've had a great pleasure wearing this one. It's interesting, it's nice, it's something different. Not beast mode, but not sissy mode either. 4/5 stars

I'm really liking this one.. It is citrus, but to me undeniably masculine and even a bit "serious". If you have more of a serious personality or are in a more serious mood, you may find this one fitting. This one definitely is work appropriate as it has that aura about it. I think women could find this sexy in a "professor" sort of way... Could definitely be worn casually.. maybe more for the rainy day than for a fun day at the beach. There is definitely a spot in my lineup for it.

To me the drydown is where this really shines. The top notes are OK, but honestly not what I'm after. This dirty orange accord and sharp facet that I imagine is the flint note listed is not particularly pleasing. But it dries down into a woody, earthy base that reminds me of walking through a park with damp autumn leaves littering the ground. This is one you wear for yourself, not to please your girl. Leans mature but still wearable in late 20's.
